Boat Back Riv

Boat Back Riv

The legendary "boat back" Buick Riviera.

Well, at least, that's what I called them.

This was a challenging time for Detroit. The federal government was now requiring things - seat belts, air pollution controls, energy-absorbing bumpers - and the Japanese were posing a real threat with small, fuel-efficient cars and the styling cues of the late fifties, early sixties was definitely wearing thin.

I found this one on a morning bike ride around the neighborhood.

I would have painted this if those tires weren't in the way.

I couldn't manuever to get a better shot without the tires because I was shooting through chain-link.

Why am I always shooting through chain link? So many of these great cars are behind fences. I suppose that's necessary, otherwise people would just start helping themselves to the chrome, plastic and so on.

Sure makes it tough to get a good shot sometimes, though.
